The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the development of the National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC) at Lothal, Gujarat, at an estimated cost of ₹4,500 crore.
Honouring the Indus Valley Dockyard
Lothal — once a thriving dockyard of the Indus Valley Civilisation — was chosen to showcase India's rich maritime heritage.
The complex will present that legacy through a world-class ensemble of galleries, pavilions and recreational zones.
22,000 Jobs and Regional Transformation
The approval marked the formal green light for one of India's most ambitious heritage-tourism projects.
The development is expected to generate around 22,000 jobs and transform the wider Lothal region.
