NMHC Lothal Phase 1A on Track for July 2026 Completion
The Union Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways has set July 2026 as the target to complete Phase 1A of the National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC) at Lothal, with Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal reviewing progress and directing officials to fast-track the remaining works.
The World's Largest Maritime Museum
Being developed at an estimated cost of ₹4,500 crore across about 400 acres, the NMHC is set to become the world's largest maritime museum.
The complex will revive India's 5,000-year-old maritime legacy at the ancient Indus Valley port of Lothal, combining thematic galleries, heritage recreations and modern visitor infrastructure.

Once operational, the complex is expected to draw around 25,000 visitors a day, positioning Lothal as a global maritime tourism destination.
